Shahryar (3 c ex Dubai Majesty by Essence Of Dubai) got off the mark at stakes level when getting the better of Great Magician (Deep Impact) in an epic duel in the Mainichi Hai (Gr 3, 1800m) at Hanshin yesterday. Shahryar, a brother to dual elite-level winner Al Ain, battled hard to see off race favourite Great Magician by a neck to earn the late Deep Impact (Sunday Silence), who sired the trifecta in this Grade 3 contest, his 171st stakes winner. Prognosis (Deep Impact) finished two lengths behind the winner in third. Novara Park's Staphanos (by Deep Impact) oldest progeny are weanlings.
