Cox Plate to Japan

Japan’s Lys Gracieux has stormed to a thrilling win in the $5 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The post-Winx era of Australia’s richest weight for age race got off to a flyer when jockey Damian Lane piloted the Yoshito Yahagi horse to a thrilling victory.

Lys Gracieux exploded at the 200m to run past leader Castelvecchio with 150m to go before sprinting clear in a comfortable win.

The red hot favourite finished ahead of Castelvecchio and New Zealand horse Te Akau Shark.

A week after Mer De Glace won the Caulfield Cup for Japan, Lys Gracieux continued to fly Japan’s colours proudly at The Valley.

Novara Park's Staphanos is the highest Timeform Rated son of Japanese Sire sensation Deep Impact at stud in New Zealand and offers breeders an outstanding opportunity to breed to the very best blood in the world.
