149 for Deep Impact
Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) the Sire of Novara Park's Staphanos sired his 149th stakes winner on Saturday when Miyamazakura (3 f ex Miss Pascali by Mr Greeley) won The Daily Hai Queen Cup (Gr 3, 1600m) at Tokyo. Magic Castle completed a quinella for Deep Impact when running second by a neck, while there was a further three-quarters of a length back to Seiun Venus (Curren Black Hill) in third. Trained by Hideaki Fujiwara, Miyamazakura was Grade 3-placed on her last outing at Kyoto in November.
On Sunday last year’s The Daily Hai Queen Cup winner Chrono Genesis (4 m Bago - Chronologist by Kurofune) secured her fifth win from nine career starts when she took out the Kyoto Kinen (Gr 2, 2200m) at Kyoto. Having landed the Shuko Sho (Gr 1, 2200m) in October prior to running fifth in a blanket finish to the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (Gr 1, 2200m) over yesterday’s track and distance, Chrono Genesis quickened two and a half lengths clear of Curren Bouquetd'or (Deep Impact) in second, with a further length and three quarters back to Stay Foolish (Stay Gold) in third. Novara Park's Staphanos shares the same Broodmare sire with Chrono Genesis in World Champion Miler Kurofune.
