The late Deep Impact continues to leave his mark on Japanese racing siring his 157th individual stakes winner yesterday when Des Ailes (3 f Deep Impact - Avenir Certain ) remained unbeaten with her win in the Sweetpea Stakes (Listed, 1800m) at Tokyo yesterday, showing a sparkling turn of foot after a top ride from Damian Lane. Des Ailes stopped the clock a length and three-quarters clear of Smart Lien (Kizuna), with Akano Nijuichi (Black Tide) third. She is now likely to tackle the Yushun Himba (Gr 1, 2400m), the Japanese Oaks, later this month.
At Kyoto racecourse classy stayer Fierement (5 h Deep Impact - Lune d’Or by Green Tune) joined a rare group yesterday when he won his second Tenno Sho (Spring) (Gr 1, 3200m) . The Takahisa Tezuka-trained Fierement, who won the race by a neck last year, only prevailed in the last stride under Christophe Lemaire to score by a nose yesterday, defeating Stiffelio (Stay Gold) with Mikki Swallow (Tosen Homareboshi) making ground into third late.
