Deep Impact the sire of Novara Park's Staphanos continued his dominance over the Japanese Classics when the Katsuhiko Sumii trained Roger Barows (3 c ex Little Book by Librettist) landed the Japanese Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) at Tokyo yesterday. Danon Kingly completed a quinella for Deep Impact when only succumbing by a neck in second, while Velox (Just A Way) finished a further two and a half lengths away in third. Deep Impact covered a limited book of mares this year having been stood down from duties due to an injury. Deep Impact stands for the highest advertised service fee in the world at $540,000.
