The late Japanese sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) was yesterday provided his 43rd Group 1 winner when the Matthew Smith-trained Fierce Impact (5 h ex Keiai Gerbera by Smarty Jones) took out the Toorak Handicap (G1 1600m) at Caulfield. The five-year-old entire pulled clear in the final stages to beat Night’s Watch by a length and three quarters, while Age Of Chivalry finished another three quarters of a length further back in third.
