The prepotent pedigree

The bloodlines of Claba di San Jore show us why she is indeed a special mare and that not only includes her immediate dam line but further back reveals some of the most important ancestors of modern thoroughbred’s most dominant names.

Claba Di San Jore’s dam is Claw by Law Society was a winner of 7 races and stakes placed from 1500 to 2200m.She is the dam of 12 foals to race for 10 winners.

Second dam is Crodas by Shirley Heights was a winner of 5 races from 1500 to 2000m including 3 at listed stakes level as well as a 3rd placing in the G1 Italian Oaks. She is the dam of 7 foals to race for 6 winners.

The third dam is Champion Italian 3yo filly Croda Alta by Caro. She was Champion 3yo filly of her year winning 10 races from 1200 to 1700m.

The fourth dam is the stakes placed Crenelle by Crepello. She is a full sister to successful New Zealand sire Crest Of The Wave.

When we search the direct tail female line of Claba Di San Jore’s we find breed shaping mare Malva who carries a sex balanced cross of Galopin.

Charles O Mally the sire of Malva is out of the blue hen mare Goody Two-Shoes.

Malva is the dam of good sires King Salmon, His Grace and one of most significant sires ever imported to America being Blenheim II.

Blenheim II was imported into America in the 1930s and the first of three Derby winners sold by the Aga Khan to America. A proven sire in Europe, he is one of the few stallions to have offspring win both the English Derby (Mahmoud) and Kentucky Derby (Whirlaway and Jet Pilot).

Mahmoud (Blenheim – Mah Mahal) is the sire of Almahmoud ,one of the great matriarchs of the turf of all times, Almahmoud is the dam of Natalma  (dam of Northern Dancer) and Cosmah (dam of Halo).

Blenheim II’s best daughter was Mahmoud’s “aunt” Mumtaz Begum (out of Mumtaz Mahal), who became the dam of the even more influential sire Nasrullah.Mumtaz Begum’s daughter, Sun Princess produced the good runner and sire Royal Charger. Royal Charger is the sire of Turn-to (sire of Sir Gaylord the grandsire of Champion New Zealand sire Sir Tristram )  as well as the important broodmare Tessa Gillian the dam of successful New Zealand sire Test Case, and from where Eight Carat descends.

Malva holds much relevance to New Zealand as she is the second dam of Champion New Zealand stallion Summertime.

Summertime a 7-time winner in the UK who went on to be thrice champion sire in New Zealand, four times the leading NZ-based sire judged on combined Australasian progeny earnings, and the only stallion ever to sire three consecutive AJC Derby winners.

Summertime’s sired Sobig whose many top-class progeny included Melbourne Cup winner Think Big, the blue hen Soliloquy ,Caulfield Cup winner Sobar and Cox Plate winner So Called. Summertime was an outstanding broodmare sire. Examples of this is one of Bart Cummings favourites the champion Leilani.
